We then had a whole school parade in the afternoon, where each team got to walk in the parade and sing their theme song. Overall it was a fantastic day!
On Friday we had a heap of fun at Footy Day! Everyone was asked to dress up in their team colours. In the morning, the kids showed off their footy skills down at the park with the Marcellin boys. We then had a whole school parade in the afternoon, where each team got to walk in the parade and sing their theme song. Overall it was a fantastic day!

Each week for Wacky Wednesday we have been writing about different animals that come under our animal covering of the week: skin, scales, feathers, fur and shells.
For our 'skin' week we made paper plate frogs. Check out some of our creations! We brainstormed all that we knew about frogs and did some pretty great writing too! We did it! We made it to 100 days of prep!! Since day one in prep we have been counting everyday. We count on tens frames, make bundles with popsticks, use a bead frame, a number flip and a 100s chart. We always find fun new ways to count the number of days. Finally, last week we got to 100 and planned a fantastic day! Our dress up theme for the day was '100 year olds' and the kids made a great effort. The morning was full of maths activities to do with 100. We made a paper chain of 100 strips, made necklaces of 100 froot loops and made '100 days' crowns to wear. We also played 'race to 100' and made 100 with bundles of popsticks! For lunch we all brought in some yummy food and had a fun party. The kids loved it. Safe to say we were full of sugar! To finish off the day our buddies came to visit and played games with us and brought us 100 balloons. Overall, it was a hugely successful 100th day of school!!! On Wednesday, all three prep classes from SMOT went on an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo as part of our Fur, Feathers, Skin & Scales Inquiry unit. The sun was shining all day and we had a fantastic day! For some of the day we broke off into groups and went exploring. We saw lots of animals, from the crowd favourite lions to the butterflies, reptiles and new lemur enclosure. Prep T also had a special educational session where we got to touch turtles, tortoises, a frog and even a snake! (Don't worry mums and dads, it had no venom)! The day was a great tune-in to our animal unit and the kids loved writing all about the day on Thursday! As part of this week's 3D shapes maths unit, the students were asked to bring in rectangular boxes from home to create robots. First, the kids painted their boxes. They then got to raid our art cupboard to add lots of cool bits and pieces to their robots. Some had antennas and some even had 3 or more eyes! The kids had a fantastic time painting and creating their robots. Take a look! This week our big book was called 'Grandpa, Grandpa'. It was about a girl who went fishing with her grandpa and they caught crayfish, snapper and mussels!
So for Wacky Wednesday this week I decided we would go fishing! We didn't have any real water or real fish. So we had to make do with some paper sea creatures, an ocean of blue cellophane and a rod made of a stick, some string and a paper clip hook! The kids all had a turn to 'hook a fish' and we then wrote about what we caught and decorated the sea creatures. Take a look at our pics! :) Prep T had a fabulous last day of term! We dressed up as a community helper as part of our community unit. The kids loved doing a talk on their special community helper. It was fantastic to see how much effort everyone made on the day! Thank you to the parents for helping create such wonderful dress-ups! :) This week Prep T did a walk through the St Martins Parish Church to see what interesting symbols and objects we could find. The kids then wrote about the things they saw. There are lots of special things in a church such as candles, Jesus on the cross, the tabernacle, flowers and the altar. Check out our photos to see the special objects we discussed. Out term two inquiry unit is 'Community'. The kids have learnt all about what a community is and the important people who make up a community. We had some wonderful prep parents come and speak to us about their important jobs including a police officer, a scientist, an engineer and a child psychologist. Part of our unit was a wonderful excursion through Macleod and Heidelberg. We went into each shop and talked to the shop owners in Macleod about what they do. The kids also visited the local kindergarten. We then caught the train altogether to Heidelberg and were escorted by a special 'Metro' train official named Peter. He had come to visit us beforehand to talk about safety on trains. In Heidelberg, we wandered around in our small groups and spent time in more shops. Some groups went to the Police station while others got to walk around the Vet and see where they keep all the animals when they have had surgery. It was a fantastic day and it is safe to say the kids slept well that night. Even Miss Truefeldt was exhausted after such a big day! This week the Fire Department paid St Martins a visit as part of our Community unit. The kids yelled with excitement as they saw the truck park near the gate at recess. The fire fighters spoke to us about fire safety at home and how important it is to have a 'safe meeting place' and smoke alarms that work properly. The kids learnt how to 'STOP, DROP and ROLL' and had a few practices pretending there was a real fire. We were also lucky enough to go and check out the fire truck and have a go with the fire hose! Here are a few pics of this fantastic day. |
